Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the Onsite Music Festival-goer Experience.

The use of terms like Artificial Intelligence (AI) are popular buzzwords circulating in the media currently, but can this technology actually help to improve the festival-goer experience when onsite? What are practical steps that festival organisers can take to utilise this technology in a productive manner.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence processes by computer systems. This requires the creation and building of software algorithms which enable learning through the acquisition of information and the rules for using it. The advances in software development for such algorithms has accelerated in recent years making AI more usable for a whole range of applications. Festival organisers can now utilise this technology to improve customer experiences.

Building an AI Solution for Data Collection and Implementation.
Creating a unique AI algorithm that meets the specific requirements for a music festival will require experts from various fields to design, develop, and deploy effective solutions. Organisers will likely need to employ an external agency to carry out this work. The key for any AI solution to work is the collection of data and information that allows the AI software to work ultimately providing a useful service to festival-goers.

Essential Hardware and Software.
To enable data collection festival-goers will need to have RFID wristbands and mobile devices that have the festival App installed. This enables user behaviour to be tracked and collected so that AI algorithms can send personalised notifications and alerts to festival-goers. Some solutions may require GPS and location data to be enabled to work effectively. Any data collection must comply with prevailing GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) rules.

Personalised Music Schedules.
Depending on how much data is collected it may be possible to analyse music preferences of festival-goers based on their listening history and favorite artists. AI can then suggest upcoming artists and performances that align with their tastes. Festival Apps usually contain the event’s performance schedules and AI can help create personalised schedules based on their preferences and constraints such as stage locations, overlapping performances, and breaks for food or rest. It is entirely possible for personalised schedules to be continuously adjusted in real-time to accommodate changes or delays, ensuring festival-goers make the most of their time at the event.

Vendor Selection.
If an AI solution includes interactive map navigation on mobile devices it may be possible to provide onsite directions to food and drink vendors with personalised preferences considered along with tailored discounts and promotions. If the AI software is real time enabled, it can suggest alternative vendors with the least congestion and queues for example.

Crowd Management.
Real time AI data analysis linked to festival-goer location can help identify overcrowding on festival sites. The AI may be able to predict crowd movements and anticipate potential safety issues to organisers. The same data can be used to send alerts to festival-goers to avoid certain site locations at given times.

Some of these suggestions may be possible now or in the near future but demonstrate the possibilities for music festivals by using onsite AI personalisation. AI enables music festivals can create more engaging, seamless, and tailored experiences for festival-goers enhancing their enjoyment and satisfaction with the event.

For festival organisers planning their events using a software management platform like Festival Pro gives them all the functionality they need manage every aspect of their event logistics. The guys who are responsible for this software have been in the front line of event management for many years and the features are built from that experience and are performance artists themselves. The Festival Pro platform is easy to use and has comprehensive features with specific modules for managing artists, contractors, venues/stages, vendors, volunteers, sponsors, guestlists, ticketing, cashless payments and contactless ordering.
